The garden rose: a lovely addition to any garden

Every garden should include roses. Whether you have a modern garden, cottage garden or facade garden… a garden rose is always a lovely addition. Would your balcony or terrace benefit from a bit of fragrance and colour? A potted rose is a great solution!

From classic to wild

A climbing rose is ideal for growing along facades; all you have to do is remove a tile. They can also grow against a fence, gate or pergola. Standard roses, Hybrid Tea roses (large-flowered roses) and floribundas (cluster roses) are perfect for traditional and more manicured gardens. Botanical roses are suitable in wilder, less structured gardens. They are also a top choice for edible gardens because they produce a lot of rose hips, which are great for making jam or syrup.

Shrub roses and ramblers

Shrub roses are quite versatile and can be used as rose hedges, borders and planting beds. They usually have small leaves and lots of flowers. Roses also grow well in pots, as long as they are at least 40 centimetres deep. This is because roses grow their roots deep into the soil, which enables them to withstand drought. Ramblers are a great option for brightening up the roof of a shed. Some grow to a height of 4 metres, but others can reach 20 metres. They are characterised by their many small flowers. You could give an old tree new life by growing a rambler on it.

Did you know that…

  • Snails don’t like roses?
  • Climbing roses are actually espalier roses because you have to tie them on?
  • Most roses need 4 hours of sunlight a day? The more sun, the more flowers!

Gift tip

Surprise someone by giving them a garden rose. It’s an original gift that can provide years of enjoyment. Personalise it by attaching a handwritten card.
